Comparisons
Slight Revision, versus the alternatives.
The question we get most: why WordPress with you, instead of Wix, Squarespace, or the AI tool in last night’s ad? Fair question. Here is our answer, one comparison at a time, including when the other option is the right call.
On these pages, we would rather be fair than flattering
Where we stand
Three reasons we build the way we do.
Not a manifesto. Just the three things underneath every comparison on these pages.
It is open source
WordPress is open-source software. It is not tied to one hosting company or subscription platform, and it can run with many different hosts. We build on it because we know it well, because it gives us room to build, and because the core platform is not something a single website company can take away from you.
You own your stuff
Your website, content and domain are yours. If you ever stop working with us, the site can move to another WordPress host. Some tools, licenses and BrightFrame features we provide as part of our managed service may need to be replaced or licensed separately, but the website itself is not trapped here.
A partner, not a platform
A builder gives you a capable tool that you operate, with support that knows the platform. We give you a website built with you, plus people who already know your site and business, run the DNS and email and updates, and keep taking responsibility for it. That is the part no tool replaces.
The part about money
Cheaper on day one is not the same as cheaper.
Builders are often cheaper to start, and for a simple site they may stay cheaper. Costs can change when a business needs more storage, commerce, scheduling, marketing tools, apps or a higher plan. That is why we think the useful comparison is the whole setup, not just the starting price.
Our side of that comparison: we keep adding to what hosting includes, such as protection, monitoring, your own analytics, structured data, email and the tools, and we have not raised the price in years. Compare the ongoing price for the features you actually need, not only the entry plan.
Put simply: earn the renewal, don’t bill for the upgrade
Pick a comparison
One page per alternative.
Each one says where the tool shines, where it bites later, and when it is the right call.
Wix
The most polished do-it-yourself builder. Fast to start; the working site stays on Wix.
Squarespace
Strong design defaults and a design box that can become a ceiling. Partial export.
AI site builders
Astonishing first drafts. Ownership, portability and responsibility vary a lot by tool.
WordPress.com
Same software, different landlord. A hosted product you manage, versus a site we manage with you.
The GoDaddy builder
One click from the domain you already have. Compare the renewal price; the pages stay in the builder.
Not sure which?
Send us the tool you are looking at and what the site has to do. We will tell you straight, even if the answer is “that is fine, go ahead.”
When a builder is fine
Sometimes a builder is the right answer.
A one-page site you will never touch again. A personal project. A temporary landing page. A budget that genuinely stops at the subscription, and the time to run it yourself. If that is you, a builder is fine, and we will say so. What we are for is the site that the business actually runs on.
Questions
Comparison questions, answered.
The questions people ask before they ask about price.
Do you use AI yourselves?
Yes, every day, for research, drafts, code and checking our own work. The tools make the work better. They do not change who should be responsible for a business’s website, which is a person you can call.
Can you move a builder site to WordPress?
Usually the content, yes; the design is generally rebuilt, because most builders offer little or no export of the site itself. We have done it many times, and the rebuild is normally where the site gets better.
What does hosting with you cost?
Most sites are on one plan, and we have not raised its price in years. The plans, and what they include, are on the hosting page. Compare the whole list, not just the first line.
Will you tell me if a builder is the better choice?
Yes. We turn work away when the fit is wrong, and a builder is sometimes exactly right. Ask us; a straight answer costs nothing.
Found something that changed?
These tools move fast. If we have something wrong or out of date, tell us. We would rather fix it than win an argument with old information.
