Slight Revision vs Wix

Wix, honestly compared.

Wix is the most polished do-it-yourself builder there is, and for some sites it is the right answer. Here is where it shines, where it bites later, and what you get with us instead.

We'll be even-handed here: fair is fair

What it is

A rented editor, template and host, in one subscription.

Wix is a hosted website builder. You pick a template, drag things around in the editor, and Wix hosts the result. The editor, the design, the hosting and the SSL certificate are one monthly bill, and an app market covers forms, bookings, stores and a lot else.

It is genuinely easy, the templates look good, and you can have something presentable online in an afternoon. That is why people choose it, and it is a fair reason.

Honestly, an afternoon to a presentable site is a real advantage

Where it shines

Credit where it is due.

None of this is a knock. These are the reasons people choose it, and they are real.

Fast to start

Pick a template, add your words and photos, publish. No hosting to set up, no software to install, nothing to update.

One bill, one login

Editor, hosting, certificate and the app market all live in one account. For a simple site that is a real convenience.

Good for a site that will not change much

A one-page site, a portfolio, a menu, a coming-soon page: Wix does these well and gets out of the way.

Where it bites later

The part the ad leaves out.

Usually discovered in year two, when the site matters more than it did on day one.

The site itself stays on Wix

Your content belongs to you, but the Wix site itself is built to run on Wix’s platform: its own help center says a site has to run on Wix’s servers. If you move to another platform, the website is generally rebuilt there rather than transferred as it is.

The total depends on what you add

The starting plan may be all a simple site ever needs. As the site grows, additional storage, business features, commerce, bookings or premium apps can change the total cost. Compare the setup you will actually need, not only the entry price.

Support does not know your business

Wix has documentation and real customer support. What it does not give you is the same person or small team who already knows why your domain is configured that way, what changed last Tuesday, or how the website fits into the rest of your business. That context is a big part of what our clients are paying us for.

The domain, email and DNS are still there

The builder makes the website easier, but the domain, DNS, email and connections to other business tools still exist, and someone still needs to understand how those pieces fit together. A client who left us for a builder called a few days later with a domain authorization code in hand and no idea what to do with it.

With us instead

What you get with us.

The same easy editing for your text and photos, with the rest of the job done by people who know your site. That is the difference, and it is most of the difference.

  • Your website, content and domain are yours. If you ever stop working with us, the site can move to another WordPress host. Some tools, licenses and BrightFrame features we provide as part of our managed service may need to be replaced or licensed separately, but the website itself is not trapped here.
  • Open-source software without a platform plan deciding which plugins or custom functionality we are allowed to use. When the site needs something new, we choose or build the right solution instead of first asking whether the builder tier permits it.
  • A design built around your business, not a template you adapted.
  • People who run the domain, DNS, email, updates, backups and monitoring, and who answer the phone.
  • Managed WordPress hosting with many ongoing tools included, at a price we have not raised in years.
  • Honest advice about what is worth adding and what is not.

The honest answer

Sometimes they are the right call.

Yes, we sell websites, so of course we think our way is valuable. The point of this page is to say where that value actually matters, and where it does not.

Choose Wix if…

  • You need a one-page site, a portfolio or a temporary page and you are happy to build it yourself.
  • The site will not change much once it is up, and it is not how customers find or pay you.
  • Your budget genuinely stops at the subscription, and you have the time to run it.

Choose us if…

  • The website is part of how the business runs: leads, bookings, payments, forms that have to reach the right inbox.
  • You would rather someone else own the technical side and tell you the truth about it.
  • You want to keep the site, the content and the domain no matter who you work with next.

Questions

Wix questions, answered.

The questions people ask us on the phone about this one.

Can you move my Wix site to WordPress?

The content, yes. Text, images and blog posts come across; the design is built fresh, because Wix sites cannot be exported. We have done this many times, and the rebuild is usually the moment the site gets better.

Is WordPress harder to use than Wix?

For editing text and swapping photos, no. The difference is everything around the editing, and with us that part is ours to run, not yours.

Will my domain come with me?

Yes. If the domain is registered through Wix, it can generally be transferred to another registrar once it is eligible for transfer, and we can handle that process with you.

What does it cost to move?

It depends on the size of the site. Send us the address and we will tell you plainly what a rebuild involves, and whether it is worth doing now or later.

Found something that changed?

These tools move fast. If we have something wrong or out of date, tell us. We would rather fix it than win an argument with old information.

Weighing Wix right now?

Send us the site you are thinking about and what it needs to do. We will tell you straight whether Wix is a fine choice for it, likely to become limiting, or a job for us.
